Dell Latitude 15 5000 E5540 (Customizable)
The Dell Latitude 15 5000 E5540 is a serious laptop. This 15.6-incher sports enterprise features, such as Intel vPro technology for remote system management, Dell’s own management features, Professional versions of Windows 7 or 8, fingerprint and SmartCard reader options for enhanced security, a ruggedized MIL-STD-810G-tested chassis with glass fiber LCD back cover, and a docking connector. The notebook is based on the Intel Core-series i3, i5 and i7 “Haswell” ultra-low voltage processors, offering a great balance between computing potential and power consumption.
Customers can order the Dell Latitude 15 5000 E5540 with optional touchscreen display, the Nvidia GeForce GT 720M 2GB dedicated graphics instead of the standard basic Intel HD 4400, 1080p display resolution instead of 720p, up to 8GB of RAM, and up to 1 Terabyte of traditional hard drive storage or up to 256GB solid state drive. This laptop has a built-in DVD burner drive and optional backlight underneath the keyboard with numeric pad. A nice perk is ThinkPad TrackPoint-like pointing stick device which sits in the middle of the keyboard, but that feature is only optional.
Alongside the aforementioned docking connector and optional SmartCard slot, it also has four USB ports, HDMI and VGA video connectors, stereo speakers, webcam, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Gigabit LAN, and a multi-format media card reader.
Battery options are 4-cell (40 Whr), 6-cell (65 Whr) and 9-cell (97 Whr). All three choices include ExpressCharge technology for fast battery charging, but unfortunately we have no info on battery life.
Thickness of this machine is 1.2″ without the touch layer on the screen and 1.3″ with it. The weight starts at five pounds.
